Vapour Pressure of Liquid

Vapour Pressure of Liquid

Vapour Pressure of Liquid:
  1. Vapour pressure of a liquid at given temperature is defined as pressure exerted on liquid surface by its own vapour in equilibrium.
  2. Vapour pressure of water is also called as Aqueous Tension.
  3. Following Factor affecting Vapour Pressure of Liquid;

         I.        Temperature:
As the temperature increases, vapour pressure of liquid is increases.
       II.        Nature of Liquid:
Volatile liquids having higher vapour pressure comparing to non volatile liquid.
Egg. Volatile Liquid alcohol having higher vapour pressure than water
    III.        Nature of solute:
The vapour pressure of a solvent is lowered when a non-volatile solute is dissolved in it to form a solution.
