Vapour Pressure of Liquid |
Vapour
Pressure of Liquid:
- Vapour pressure of a liquid at given temperature is defined as pressure exerted on liquid surface by its own vapour in equilibrium.
- Vapour pressure of water is also called as Aqueous Tension.
- Following Factor affecting Vapour Pressure of Liquid;
I.
Temperature:
As the temperature increases, vapour pressure of liquid is increases.
II.
Nature
of Liquid:
Volatile
liquids having higher vapour pressure comparing to non volatile liquid.
Egg. Volatile Liquid alcohol having higher vapour pressure than water
III.
Nature
of solute:
The
vapour pressure of a solvent is lowered when a non-volatile solute is dissolved
in it to form a solution.
